York City's COPPERMINE will be performing at Sherlocks,
with local favorites General
Noreaga and the Seahollies,
Saturday June 5th. COPPERMINE is a hard driving rock engine
with jazz overtones, and has been gaining recognition
throughout the NYC area. The group's "Seven-One-Eight"
CD was recently released on Paved Earth Music, and their
song "I'll Be Waiting" will be included on ShutEye
Records "Buzzlighter" music series, to be distributed
to college radio throughout the country. COPPERMINE also
includes former Erie musician, Teddy
Williams.
Come out and support two of Erie's finest rock bands,

Fire wins award at NYC festival |
|
Blue Fire
recently won the award for Best Teen Band at the New York
Music Festival 2004. The awards are decided by a team
of music industry professionals and were officially released
on Thursday, May 27th to NYC press and industry.
Blue Fire traveled to NYC last month to compete in the
annual festival and were the youngest band worldwide to
perform at the event. An awards ceremony is scheduled
for June 26th at Plaid in NYC.

the Energy FM 90/Media Play ROCK THE BLOCK Music & Arts
Festival
We’re proud to announce the Energy FM 90/Media
Play ROCK THE BLOCK Music & Arts Festival, also presented
by playerie.com and the Schuster Program for the Arts.
Saturday May 1st on the campus ofGannonUniversity.The
day-long event starts at1:00pmand features local bands
and artists’ exhibits. Admission is free and
open to the public.
The Energy FM 90/Media Play ROCK THE BLOCK Music & Arts
Festival is an end-of-semester celebration for Gannon
students, and a showcase of the local arts scene. Bands
participating in ROCK THE BLOCK can also be heard as
part of Energy FM 90’s local music library.
The ROCK THE BLOCK stage will be set up on7th Street,
under the Gannon arch. Bands will play 40-minute sets,
with a new band starting each hour. At 1:00p, Midnight
Jacks play, followed by Black Rose Diary at 2:00p,Paper
St.at 3:00p, and Criminally Insane at4:00. The final
bands to take the stage are Calling Blue Skies at 5:00p
and Super No. 7 at 6:00p.
Artwork from local artists will be displayed outside
along AJ’s Way, between 7th and 8th Streets,
and inside theWaldronCampusCenter. Artists from throughout
theEriecommunity, including student artists, are invited
to participate. Interested artists may contact Anita
Snider, Director of the Schuster Program for the Arts,
at 814/871-5467.
Additional ROCK THE BLOCK attractions include vendors
and band merchandise areas. An outdoor food area will
also be set up on the Friendship Green, the lawn in front
of theWaldronCampusCenter.
ROCK THE BLOCK is a rain-or-shine event. Some attractions
will move indoors in inclement weather.

It Down - a new PlayErie.com concept |

PlayErie.com has launched its "Boil It Down"
section of the site, accessible from the left navigation
menu on each page.
Boil It Down it is a journal / weblog area where various
music industry people and Erie alumni can post their thoughts
to the PlayErie community. Posts may be about a variety
of subjects related to music in some way. Currently on
board are John Novello from Los Angeles and Teddy Williams
from New York City, both being former Erie natives.
Working in tandem with the journalist's pages will be
a new Boil it Down section on our Forum. Within this section
are topics relating to each journalist. This will allow
discussion and two-way communication between the journalists
and the PlayErie community.

| Competition
for Erie's top metal band to begin April 29th |
| The
"Rock Fight" competition will begin April 29th
and run every Thursday through May 27th at Sherlock's.
Rock
Fight is currently looking for Erie's best to compete
for top metal band, with 10 major cities involved in the
search/competition.
The
winner from each city will be invited to perform at the
"World Series Of Metal" held on July 24th at
the House Of Blues Scene Pavillion in Clevland, OH. In
addition, the winner from Sherlock's will recieve $1000
and a CD single from Diecaster studios. As many bands
as can be accomodated will be accepted.
Deadline for entries is April 19th, 2004. Submit your
entries/presskits to:

Lakes Film Association to present live bands/videos |
|
On April 30, 2004 the Great Lakes Film Association will
showcase it's inaugural event, the Great Lakes Music Video
Festival.
After accepting music videos world-wide they have chosen
the best of the best for this event, which will be held
Friday, April 30 at the Docksider Tavern. Showtime is
7pm and the cost is $5.00 per person.
Artists that will be performing this night will include
Jim Patterson (Acoustic), Black
Rose Diary, Blue
Fire, The Void, and The
Dogs on the same stage on the same night for a once
in a lifetime show.
In addition to this live presentation, the GLFA will also
be screening music videos from around the world with many
of the artists who made these videos in attendance.

Fire to play NYC show |

Out of thousands of submissions Bluefire
was one of 51 bands selected to perform in The New York
Music Festival in New York City. The band will have a
chance to network with all the major record label A&R
reps and perform a half an hour set as well. MTV, Vh1
and Rolling Stone magazine are just a few of
the media folks that will be on hand.
Bluefire will be in New York City for 5 days in April
and have an opportunity to sit down 1 on 1 with the industry
people and listen to their originals and discuss possible
future events. BlueFire will be the youngest band WORLDWIDE
to perform at the New York Music Festival.

Calling
Blue Skies will be holding a CD Release show Saturday,
April 10th at Forward Hall. The show is in support of
the band's newest release which is a self-titled 9 song
CD.
Calling Blue Skies will also be appearing at this year's
Blue
Cat Cubed event.
