Battle Of The Bands 2004 @ Sherlocks

Battle 6 - 03.04.04

1. Super #7

Reviews are going to be a little different this week... at least format wise.

And a lot shorter...

First if you were only going to go to one night of the battle, last night was the one to go to.

Super No. 7 rocked the house with their alt. rock, modern-style. Big crowd, big show, hanging from lights, and basically what we have come to expect from this five-piece. They deservedly have reached the finals for a third straight year.!

2. Otis

Otis surprised some people. A two-piece band, bass and drums and sound like Primus. Excellent musicianship, very tight and won over the crowd with a quirky-rock/funk set.

3. Black Rose Diary

Black Rose Diary. now read carefully boys and girls, because I'm only saying this once.

They are the unofficial Battle of the Bands winner this year.

Yep, you heard me.

No offense to all the other fine bands competing in the finals. They're great and a worthy winner will be chosen...

Black Rose blew the doors off of Sherlock's and I won't attempt to describe their set.

When they were finished, the crowd went wild and they chose to do an encore.

They stepped up to the mic and stated (I'm paraphrasing for dramatic purposes and intent here) "Fuck Rocket 101, we don't need the cash".

They knowingly disqualified themselves by playing an encore.

A judge went on record with me and said "They were the best band we've seen so far".

Another judge stated that they were "12 points off a perfect score... the highest of any band in the finals."

First off Rocket 101 and the Battle judges did the right thing by disqualifying Black Rose... the rules were established before the contest... no encores.

But Black Rose also did the right thing. They've always said they were about the rock and tonight they proved it.
